Irrational Hope

That was a much better way to start the season than watching left handed passes from Gus Frerotte. The sometimes luvable bungals will not have Wildman on the billboard until week 9 this year! Plus, all the insufferable Cleveland hype just went out the window because they lost to the Mike Brown's bungals at home in week one as big favorites. You just know Sam Wyche is smiling right now.

IF someone was to believe in Irrational against all belief defying hope then THIS is going to be the most improbable year ever in the history of NFL seasons as Bruce Gradkowski does his best Trent Dilfer impression and Cinci rides a great defense and running game to previoulsy unconsidered glories. 

That would be nice for a change...Who Dey! Kyle Orton's neck beard better watch out

 

 

 

Afternoon Reading...

...for the Chuck Klosterman fans out there.  ESPN published an excerpt on football from his upcoming book.  But don't be fooled by the word "excerpt", it's long.  And good.

Noteworthy point to Bengals fans.  When he gets into his list of innovative football minds you see the following people (among others):

1. Bill Walsh (basically realized that passing for small chunks of yardage and running for small chunks of yardage amounted to the same thing, but that it was much easier to pass for those yards - this became the west coast offense)
2. Sam Wyche (wanted to find a way to exploit bad match ups and fatigue by never letting the opponent adjust between plays - no huddle)
3. Dick Lebeau (dropped huge defensive ends in coverage and blitzed smaller/faster guys - zone blitz)

All of those guys came up with their ideas while at Cincinnati under the Paul Brown.  For whatever the reason, it seems Paul Brown encouraged and incubated many people with fringe ideas (even if he sometime ultimately drove them away to our detriment - Bill Walsh).

I think we can all agree it's only a matter of time til Chuck recognizes the innovative offensive thinking by Brat and the open, free thinking atmosphere Mikey fosters as owner.

Learn You Somethin': Sunday Q&A with Houston Chronicle Blogger Texans Chick

It's the weekend but that does not mean you still cannot make your knowledge grow, right?  Hmmm...you look skeptical.  What if I told you that this football lesson plan comes from a woman who knows more about football than you?  Better, huh.  I thought so.

What follows is a Q&A dialogue with Texans fan and writer Steph Stradley about anything from who you might not know on the Texans that should scare you to why the average Texans players still suffers from high car insurance premiums (they're young).

I'm guessing you're like me, and don't know jack about the Texans, because they've basically been a NFL afterthought (which is funny, cause we root for the Bengals).  So educate yourself.
