So it's Tuesday night and I'm pretty bored. I figured that I'd take a look at a Steelers' blog. See how they are preparing for the long offseason now that the playoffs are a remote possibility. Well, I come across this post from something called Behind the Steel Curtain. By the way, the only things going on behind the steel curtain are: a) HGH consumption and b) something Larry Johnson would not be happy with.
I guess the point of the post is to point out six Steeler related news stories, or something. Instead of numbering them one through six, he uses the numbers of the six Super Bowls the Steelers were handed by the NFL. Keep in mind, the person writing the post was likely something like -8 years old in 1979 when they beat the Rams. But still, SIXBURGH!!!
In it, he writes:
XLIII- Those of you who don't know much about Bernard Scott, the Bengal who ran back the only touchdown scored in Sunday's game might be interested to read a bit about him from CBS sportsline. The Bengals have taken a lot of chances on players with troubled pasts including Tank Johnson, Chris Henry, and now Larry Johnson to name a few. The Bengals have found some chemistry this season due to their success on the field, I am very curious though to see what happens when the AFC North front-runners hit a patch of adversity.
How do those sour grapes taste, cocksucker? Sure, playmaker extrodinaire and hero to the masses Bernard Scott might have a troubled past, but what about the guy who made the key play in Super Bowl XLIII? James Harrison: Women Don't Stand a Chance Against My Iron Fists. And the guy who was terrified to tackle B Scott - Jeff Reed. I guess punching a towel dispenser is better than punching a coach, but at least the coach has a chance to fight back.
The point being this - I'm sure you skank losers didn't complain when Harrison was running behind a bunch of blocks in the back in the Super Bowl just because he beat up some women. So don't say anything now when you get SWEPT LIKE THE BITCHES THAT YOU ARE.
Now, I understand that this guy is just an amatuer blogger and a high school junior. He can't be expected to be objective like a paid journalist. It may be a touch unfair to be critical of him. We've got some great journalists in Cincinnati. Joe Reedy and C Trent Rosecrans (amongst others) cover the Bengals without coming off as blogging fanboys. Most of the time they just report the facts, but when they do offer opinion it is balanced and supported with reason.
That takes us to Ed "I put the 'Ouche' in 'Douche'" Bouchette from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He really gets paid to do this. Check out what he had to say concerning Carson:
Perhaps Cincinnati's Palmer saw another game because he said that "we outschemed them with some of the stuff we were doing with the run game and the play-action game. We had a really good plan."
The Bengals produced 61 yards on 29 carries, a 2.1-yard average with a long run of 9 yards against the NFL's top-ranked run defense. Palmer had a 76.8 passer rating based on his small-ball stats of 18 of 30 for 178 yards.
Whatever schemes they used, their offense produced a miserly nine points.
YEEESS! YEEESS! OH, LET ME TASTE YOUR TEARS, ED! MMMM, YOUR TEARS ARE SO YUMMY AND SWEET! OH THE TEARS OF UNFATHOMABLE SADNESS! MMM YUMMY!
Seriously, read that again. "Oh yeah, well, you might have beat us, but, you still suck Carson! Hahaha!" This guy writes for a newspaper. Gets paid and everything. Hard to see why that's a failing industry. Just makes me all the more appreciative of who we've got covering the Bengals.

What I don't understand is what point are they (Pittsburghers) trying to make by pointing out that Cincinnati sucks?
A sucky team swept them and Baltimore? They just got lucky 4 times?
If I had my ass handed to me I'd be building my opponent up, there's no shame in getting beat by someone far superior, loses to someone who sucks, that humiliating.

Stay classy Stiller fans.

Ah, the glorious mockery of Steelers douches - if it weren't for that, I would've deleted my Facebook account already. I actually got into a 40+ comment debate with a retarded Steelers fan on my one friend's profile last week and he kept on with the excuses this week, actually insinuating that special teams weren't an important part of the game. I replied that if special teams weren't important, there'd be no field goals, no extra points, and no kickoffs - teams would simply go for it on fourth or give the ball to their opponents a pre-determined distance from where their drive stalled, like they do in some pee-wee leagues. He hasn't replied since Monday, so hopefully he's done. The rest of the Steelers fans I deal with on a semi-regular basis offered up a vast number of excuses and nearly all of them finished with the same line "we'll beat you in the playoffs when it counts". Again, I used logic to thwart their claims, refuting with, "if you paid attention, these two games looked like the Pittsburgh/Baltimore games from last season, and what happened when they met in the playoffs? Didn't the same team win all three?" I think their primitive little minds are still struggling to process that.
Also, the Post-Gazette guy isn't giving the offense any credit for the field goal after Roethlisberger's pick - what, did the Bengals just run the field goal team out there on first down, kick the field goal, and be done with it? If memory serves, there were three downs out there where the MIGHTY STEEL CURTAIN DEFENSE could've caused a fumble or interception, but they didn't, so while the Bengals offense didn't move the ball, they did manage the game, and in an AFC North showdown of this import, that's sometimes enough to win.

how old are you? you're calling someone out for being a high school fanboy, but that's exactly what your entire post and really, your entire site is. grow up.
regards,
a bengals fan.

I am w/ you on the sentiment...no one enjoyed seeing the Steelers go down twice more than me, and Bengal fans deserve to revel in this moment.
But I could do w/out all the negative homosexual references. Alluding to "what goes on behind the steel curtain" and referring to the blogger in question as a c*cksucker doesn't make you much better than...well...Larry Johnson.
This site has a great mission...don't taint it w/ the kind of sophomoric boasting we'd expect from a Steeler fan.

I agree with hudey and WHO DEY. Your article wasn't good at all. Mainly because your negative tone towards other writers and your language. Clean it up and act like the pro that you want to be.

I am going to be honest with you Showtime.
WDR and Steelers fans are both Doochbags. You guys should live on an island together. You guys are on the same level.
Although, you do keep the rest of the Bengal fans entertained. It's like a low budget reality show.
Both of you guys are terds that noone takes seriously.
Just enjoy the season, update your fantasy football, play your e-box, and move on.
Signed,
You guys all stink.

I thought that ish was hilarious, and that's more a statement to the fact that WDR does this out of a commitment, and not for a profession. They've come up with a rational argument, and are also fans. Keep it up

They are 6-3 and still have a fine chance to make the playoffs with their relatively weak schedule.
There's been a lot of way-too-early celebrating in Bengal-land. Including the Chickster congratulating Mike Brown for a fine job and saying we're all even now. People get drunk on just one Kup of Koolaid in Cincy, I guess.

I think Showtime was merely pointing out what sore losers (and winners for that matter) Steeler fans can be. They make excuses--i.e. Troy P. wasn't in either game blah blah. I enjoyed the article. This is not a professional newspaper or team website. THIS IS AN OPINION WEBSITE. Showtime's OPINION leaked through the article. So what? You mean to tell me that you "Bengal fans" (WHODEY and hudey) wouldn't like to knock out every Steeler fan's teeth out like chiclets? I know that I would. The "terrible towel" makes me want to punch a baby. I'm getting the feeling that Showtime shares my sentiments. I don't agree with everything on this site either, but the guy is just amped that the Bengals have done something this year that they've NEVER done--sweep the Ravens and the Steelers in the same season. Give the guy a break. Hey-Zeus...
Now, if it was Sly who wrote this article I might have a different attitude...

Showtime, thanks for the laugh. All of you who didn't like his article should just shut their cocksuckers.

This article and the "punch a baby" comment made me laugh my ass off. I dont think the steelers are getting ready for the offseason just yet but still, great article.

It's not blumpies... it's blumpkins. I'm curious to who is the giver and who is the reciever when you guys have your "special" parties @ the Finn.
Come on now WRD loyalists.. be honest;)
I'm also curius as to how many pairs of True Relgions, x box 360's, and horrible marriages lay within this community? What!? It's just my opinion.. don't hate;)
I love you dorks.

As someone who has lived with Stiller fans; I am all for this article. We should take every opportuntiy to rub this sweep in their mouth-breathing faces. Immature or not this is Pittsburgh we are talking about: where bad people deserve their shitty lives. WHO DEY!
Posted by: whodeybaby | November 18, 2009 at 03:01 PM
Actually BCTC was making the point that the Bengals have had a relatively easy go as far as injuries and such. Also, I followed a link from a Steeler's blog to this, and while admittedly we don't take losing well, apparently Bengals fans don't handle winning well. Grow up, look forward to next week, and remember that you still root for the Bengals.

Wow, Its pretty easy to see that whomever wrote this is an absolute moron. The only thing I have against Cinci is that they are a rival of the Steelers. Oh, and before you start bashing Pittsburgh, you might want to look up where your Head Coach got his start, Jackass!
Stairway To Seven
Posted by: Man Of Steel | November 18, 2009 at 10:06 PM
Joe,
A "relatively easy go as far as injuries and such"? Really? The Steelers had a damned good safety and a mediocre defensive end out for the second game, and the same safety for the first one. Meanwhile, the Bengals had their starting blocking tight end (one of the best in the league), their best pass catching tight end, a defensive end who was the league leader in sacks before he got injured, their sixth-leading receiver who was their primary deep threat, their second-year starting SAM linebacker who was in consideration for DROY last year before a cheap shot by Hines Ward took him out for the season, and they lost their starting running back, who has, at times, led the league in rushing this season and was the second leading rusher going into the game. But yeah, the Bengals have definitely had it easier than the Steelers on the injury front.
Man of Steel,
Thank you for coming to this site and proving that those Steeler stereotypes aren't all that far off-base. We all know where Marvin got his start, we all know Marvin's from that area (so am I, actually), and we don't have any problem with the Steelers other than being a rival of the Bengals. In fact, if you read more than one post on this site, you'd see that the Steelers organization has been praised on here repeatedly for how well-run it is. It's the Steeler fans we have a problem with, and by posting "Stairway to Seven" for absolutely no reason (and no basis in reality for that matter), you've just provided a perfect example of why. The only seven the Steelers are going to be able to manage this season is a seventh place finish in the AFC standings, which means not making the playoffs.

Oh and ManOfSteel, re: Marvin Lewis, you're welcome for Dick Lebeau (twice).
