Well, from Shane's aspect of things -- having a job two years from now, it isn't that good -- if he has to consider the Bengals. He's gone after this year unless he can't hook up with another team. MBB knows this and knows that kickers aren't exactly part of a big market. If Shane decides he wants to play somewhere else but can't find anyone, he can come back here for another two years -- but at a VERY reduced salary. Mike's just giving him a one-year big pay-day. Essentially it is the same thing that happened to Jim Breech (less the formality of having a franchise tag attached to him).
