A familiar criticism of WDR's campaign to persuade the Bengals to hire a GM, echoed today by Bengals Fan Blog Stripe Hype, is that hiring a GM is will not work as long as Mike Brown and the Brown family are in charge. OK, we agree - getting the Brown family out of the business of owning the Bengals is the best solution. But how likely is that to happen? Come on. Stop being irrational. That is why WDR is focused on bringing about change that actually has a small chance of being implemented.
The Benglas are a business and Mike Brown is the owner. The Bengals are his family;s only source of income. They are not going to sell the team. So debating if the Bengals would be improved if the Brown family were not in charge is about as worthwhile as debating how the team would be improved with Bill Cowher as the coach.
WDR does not simply think that hiring a GM will be the magic bullet that will solve all the Bengals problems. That's why since starting this effort in February 2008, we put a list of 6 demands, which you can see at the left. Demand #2 is "THAT Mike Brown will hire a general manager, drastically expand the scouting department and relinquish all control of player personnel." Yes, we want the Bengals to hire a GM. But we also want this GM to have full control of the player personnel department and a much larger scouting department.
This is all in the fine print for the campaign that we can rally around: "Hire a General Manager." The perfect solution would be for Mikey and his family to sell the Bengals, be chased out of Cincinnati by an angry mob and have a new owner in the Bob Castellini - committed to winning and to the City of Cincinnati. But since that is not plausible, WDR is fighting for the Bengals to hire a competent GM that has control of player personnal decisions and a bigger scouting department, among others. This just doesn't fit that well on a billboard.

What if WDR bought a really really really big Billboard?

There is a lot to be said for succinct messages. Especially when people can come to the website and read the entire manifesto.

Perhaps if a group of elite fans approach some of Cincy's wealthiest folks (Nick or George Clooney for starters), and see if they would be willing to make Mike an offer. That's what I would do.
Its clear that NOTHING will happen under this current regime, guys. No amount of pressure, billboards, or negative press will sway that idiot.

Anybody ever take into account the possibility that Mike Brown can't read? He's clearly retarded. And not in an entertaining, or Rainman, or even Gilbert Grape sort of way. I'm not so sure he isn't more than mildly retarded, but seriously fucked up. Of course we all know that is true. Come to think of it, I wonder if his meetings with Katie play like a scene from that movie with Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribbbbbeeeddsisiin....whatever the fuck his name his. It's about retards though. Youtube it.

You can't summarily dismiss or minimize things by casually saying 'bringing about change that actually has a small chance of being implemented.', when your 'solution' also has no chance of being implemented either. It doesn't have a 'small chance' -- it has NO CHANCE. That's the whole point. The person was making a statement that MBB hiring a GM wasn't going to do anything -- that person is correct. You just dismissed his statement with NOTHING insofar as evidence to disprove his statement -- AND -- you put forth your own statement which EQUALLY does not have 'oomph' behind it.

Oh, and just to note, I wouldn't put my money on Castellini either as his first year as a Reds owner could be summed up as being just about as equally poor and disgusting as the shenanigans that have taken place west of GABP.
It's kind of like people giving all manner of credit to Paul Brown but his record (as a owner and de facto GM) sucked donkey balls just as his sons' record does.
IOW, people before you write, think things through.

I am going to strongly to over strongly agree with the criticism of your manifesto. You even comment on it every time you post an article. Your time, energy, and people donations are beyond being wasted. Accept that you'll FAIL miserably. Adopt a new manifesto a little below. MIKE BROWN WILL NEVER CHANGE. Now, allow me to 1-UP you. MIKE BROWN WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING WORTH A SHIT EITHER. This man cannot be trusted to hire an even close to fucking competent GM. He'll just hire some fucktard(family, friend, person within, etc.)to be the PR puppet all while he pulls the strings from behind.
Secondly, change your complete manifesto to having Mike Brown leave town with his family, friends and network of retarded fuckfaces. Thats right. LEAVE TOWN. We'll sue to get the name(that's right Mike, we keep the bengals name, Fuck You!)he'll give us some cash and we make it known to Goodell we want a new team pronto.
Examples:
NFL-Cleveland Browns
NBA-Seattle Supersonics
Or simply we make offers to others wanting to move. There are a few I believe.
Accept this new manifesto and I will donate money and even become an activist.

Shit, left this part out. The new should billboards read like this:
Dear Mike Brown,
Leave Cincinnati. We'll get a new team.
Love,
Cincinnati NFL fans.

you cant honestly believe that anybody who has millions of dollars in the united states only has one source of income. come on now. if you want credibility then dont make unreasonable statements. im sure the browns dont just have a huge chunk of cash sitting in a bank somewhere.
Posted by: adam golden | December 11, 2008 at 02:18 PM
You Adam Golden, are true Bengals fan. Dumber than a bag of hammers at least in one instance. Where did I write anything about incomes? Did you read and comprehend my post?
Let me edit part of my post for you.
In 2 examples of two sports franchises, examples being the Cleveland Browns and the NBA's Seattle Supersonics. The cities retained or by geographical luck got to keep the names to their respective albeit left the town teams. Do these make much sense? The Tennessee Oilers or how about the Oklahoma Supersonics? And according to the news articles I've read Seattle got millions for their seperation. The Cleveland Browns may not have millions in the bank, but they sure got a team after Art Modell left. Oh, and a General Manager.
The revenge of getting that douchebag to have rename his team named and built by his Daddy would be oh so utterly sweet. Nevermind that the retard would keep the name even if he would move to Alaska. The Alaska Bengals? Second thought, more embarrasment for him.
But I claim you genius on one hand, because maybe your on to something with the only source of income thingy. Which totally blows WHODEYS manifest out of the water. Not buying anything while at the games may not hurt Mike's income. Let's investigate.

Hmmmm...just getting to these commments now. Jaso and WC - how about we get at least one organized, committed, and long term fight against the Brown Family before you declare something like "It doesn't have a 'small chance' -- it has NO CHANCE."
In 2002, Mike Brown stepped aside for a little and let Marvin have a chance when ticket sale prospects were bleak. He got ancy and came back. He is looking at the same situation today except it is coupled with a massive economic recession and the fact that he cannot fool us again as fans by just making a superficial change. This team's revenue streams are in serious jeopardy after this year and who knows what might happen if we all press as hard as we can.
Thus, it does not have NO CHANCE, it has a very tiny chance. But it's worth pursuing.
Also, please do not insult other commenters, Jaso, particularly when you are in the wrong. Brosef wrote that the Brown's only have one source of income in the original post, Adam was not referring to any of your comments.

"The Bengals are his family;s only source of income. They are not going to sell the team." -YOU Youre calling me dumber than a box of hammers? Do you read what you write??? So if you werent the person that wrote this article, then ok, but if you did, then go fuck yourself and you clearly are dumber than a box of hammers.
Posted by: Adam Golden | December 12, 2008 at 01:52 PM
i was obviously talking to the person who wrote the article jaso. apparently you think people care about your comments and would respond to them.

However 'tiny' WDR's chances may be, they're *huge* in comparison to MBB's chances of winning a Superbowl ( or having consistently winning seasons for that (matter)
***Long Live The WDR***
