Lost in the mess that is the 2008 Bengals season is the fact that crappy Bengals football means crappy matchups. And if it's a crappy matchup...CBS sends it's best...Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker!
This week's game against the Texans will be called by Gus Johnson...who (as I once said) sounds like he's announcing each game in an airplane hangar.
Hey, while the Bengals might go 0-16 this year...at least for those matchups against the Ravens, the Chiefs, and the Browns...there's a good chance Gus Johnson will be breathless. And that's just for the pregame intro!

All I got to say is thank God it's not Don Criqui. Pry won't matter after the first 10 minutes anyway. Will have switched to the DirectTV Redzone channel by then.

Uhg, you guys are Gus Johnson fans? I really can't understand why anyone would find his inappropriately excited play calling anything less than annoying. Remember 2005 when he did almost every Bengals game? Seriously, if a big play happens I don't mind a little excitement, but with Gus Johnson every 3-yard run is fucking historic. For me, he breaks the cardinal rule of announcing in that he makes his antics bigger than the game itself (looking you too, Kornheiser). I've read interviews with him and he's acutely aware that his histrionics get him noticed, so when people praise his attention-whoring style it only feeds him.
