Red is right - hope is very dangerous for Bengals fans. Hope can crush a man's dreams. Every season, Bengals fans are optimistic that this year will be different. This is going to be our year! Despite adding no major free agents and being outdrafted, again, the shitty players from last year will somehow become productive and the Bengals will dominate! And when the Bengals inevitably miss the playoffs - again - Bengals fans are depressed because they had so much hope going into the season.
I have fallen for that ploy for too long. So, in the lead up to this season, I have been as un-optimistic as I can remember - not expecting much at all from the Bengals. Maybe it was because I have been writing on this blog for a few months documenting all the bonehead decisions made by the Bengals. I really wanted to believe others who said that the Bengals were going to be good. Maybe they were right - what do I know? (What people who criticize this blog for being so negative so often fail to grasp is that there is nothing I want more than for the Bengals to march to the Super Bowl and win so people can look back and laugh at those idiots who wrote the blog saying the Bengals were going to suck.) I REALLY wanted to believe.
Then I watched the game today against Baltimore.
Well, guess what? The Bengals suck.
Let me rephrase - the Bengals SUCK.
I was not expecting much from the Bengals this year - but holy Christ - I was not expecting the Bengals to be as awful as they just showed against Baltimore. The offensive line was atrocious - Carson was pressured constantly and Chris Perry had no where to run. The Bengals turned the ball over, gave up a special teams TD (well, they would have if it wasn't for the bogus block in the back call) and got the ball run down their throats by a rookie RB and a reshuffled Baltimore offensive line. And, I hate to say it. but Carson's timing looked terrible. The only bright spot was the Bengals DBs, Jonathan Joseph in particular, who made some solid plays.
Other than that, I have no clue where the Bengals go from here. They got their asses handed to them by a garbage team starting a rookie QB and RB. I am struggling to find 4 wins on the schedule.
Maybe after a few more Miller Lites and a good nights sleep will improve my outlook, but right now, I am resigned to the Bengals being really, really shitty this year.

Amen. And the sad thing is that next year will be no different or the year after that. Occasionally, there will be the 2005 when strength of schedule works in their favor. But this is an organization going no where fast. WDR is right on.
