Peter King weighs in on the Bengals signing of Henry and of the Mike Brown apologists in his latest MMQB column.
"The Bengals re-acquired a capable wide receiver. All it cost them was their soul ... It'd be nice if the Bengals stood for something, other than losing.''
--Cincinnati Enquirer columnist Paul Daugherty, on the team's re-signing of troubled wide receiver Chris Henry, who, since being drafted in 2005 by Cincinnati, has been arrested five times for, in order, possession of marijuana, possession of a concealed firearm and aggravated assault with a concealed firearm, DUI, providing alcohol to underage girls in a hotel room, and assault. In addition, police were called but no charges filed when Henry allegedly stiffed a parking lot attendant for payment last November and the two men argued. He has been suspended three times for a total of 15 games in his four-year career. The signing comes in the same year that twice the Bengals said publicly they would definitely not re-sign Henry -- and after they have been hit with several injuries to receivers in camp, including to starters Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
The signing is ridiculous and reprehensible, and Daugherty is overwhelmingly correct. But read the message boards in Bengal Land, and you get a different story. This from "XElitist03,'' on the newspaper's Bengals forum: "paul daugherty should quit his job before he gets fired. he is miserable. he is more miserable than chris henry. i would much rather have chris henry in cincinnati gang-banging than paul writing another article for the newspaper.''
Thanks for that fine bit of perspective, XElitist03.

fully agree with XElitist03, as you probably know. Paul Daugherty is a prick of the highest degree and his opinions are totally worthless- nothing more than a shock jock and a tasteless one at that. He's not even from the Nasty, he needs to shut the hell up.

KY6 let me also touch on the source of the article Mr. Peter Griffin-King. This blowhard asshead hack writer loves nothing more than to kick the Bengals in the teeth whenever he can.
The new season brings a beacon of hope to all of us Bengal fans and leave it to Mr. Portly to ruin it all.
First off it is totally irresponsible to echo the sentiments of an entire fanbase by cherry picking one poster off the Bengals message boards. However, Fatty Mcgee has a deadline to make and anything to make him sound hip and slick only fuels his vente latte ego. He seems to really think that he is funny throwing in his occasional nugget about the frugalness of the Brown family or the arrest record compared to the current roster. However there is a big reason that he is a hack sportswriter and not a comedian.........hes simply not creative enough to make us laugh.

Writing for this blog has made me depressed because I am forced daily to confront just how hopeless the front office is.
It makes me doubly-depressed these days because apparently our fans do not understand this and will not no matter how reasonably we argue. I can only hope the majority of our readers are not represented by our commenters and simply read and nod in agreement without posting their thoughts here.
