We here at WDR would like to extend a warm welcome to Keith Rivers. Geoff Hobson just reported the
Bengals have reached a deal with the first round holdout. Though, we must admit, in the past WDR has expressed concerns that perhaps the Bengals are rushing a little too fast to get this kid into camp and in the process may give up too much of the precious family fortune. But no matter, they did what they thought was best, so we'd also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to the Brown Family for working hard to get this deal done quickly.
And since it's midnight and I have nothing else to add, how high are your expectations for Keith Rivers? I think the word that comes closest to describing my expectations would be: astronomical. And he better live up to them. Cause everytime I see his name I think of what he could be: Sedrick Ellis.
Considering that we are keeping him at his college position and the money he is getting paid, I'm thinking Patrick Willis from last year for the SF 49ers. While that is a pretty high ceiling, the point is he should be our best linebacker this season and come close to, if not lead the team in tackles.
I still think it's a good pick. To me, the guys that make or break our draft are Sims and Shirley. If one of them pans out, we were better of taking Rivers.

I can't argue with that...but I'd still rather have upgraded DT in that round and taken LBs in the third/fifth rounds. However, perhaps that was not the move to make this year due to the depth at those respective positions in the draft.

I don't even think Rivers was the best linebacker on his college team last year (Rey Maualuga was) so my expectations are tempered somewhat. I hope he is great and the missing piece on the defense but I'll have to see it to believe it.
